The Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department has planned a week of giving this week in hopes of purchasing a motor for a rescue boat.
After Hurricane Helene, the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department unanimously decided in their October meeting that the purchase of a new rescue boat would be a valuable resource to provide quick service and also serve as a backup to the Rescue Squad if needed.
The recent Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department monthly breakfast covered the cost of the boat. Most of the equipment needed, such as life jackets, paddles, and a pump, has also been purchased.
The next step is purchasing a motor for the rescue boat, which has been quoted at $4,500. Buying a trailer will cost an additional $12,000 to $15,000.
The boat will reduce response time for incidents on Camp Creek’s side of the river and provide a way for the fire department to assist with any incidents the rescue squad is handling or work a second incident if they are already engaged.
Jake Ottinger, a member of Modern Woodmen of America, has assisted with the fundraiser match for the week of giving and helped offset costs associated with flood relief efforts. All donations and proceeds will go toward the purchase of the motor.
