Around 1:30 this morning, police noticed a Toyota truck moving at a high rate of speed along West Andrew Johnson Highway.
Officers confirmed with radar that the truck was going 64 in a 45 mile per hour zone.
Police turned around and initiated lights and sirens, and the truck reportedly sped up and turned left onto Kingsley Ave at a high rate of speed. While on Kingsley Avenue, according to the report, the pickup turned off its lights, and then turned into a driveway.
Officers pulled in behind the vehicle and detained the driver, James Miller. Miller reportedly had slurred speech, glassy red eyes, and was unsteady on his feet. In the passenger seat of James’ vehicle was an open 12 pack of beer with several cans missing.
Miller consented to standardized field sobriety tasks, which he performed poorly on. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, evading arrest, and speeding.
