Ballad Health is offering a free information class as part of the CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program on Thursday, October 17 at the Roby Adult Center.
Over 98 million Americans, or one out of three adults, has prediabetes. Among those 98 million, nine out of 10 do not know that they are prediabetic. People with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. Among those 60 or older, the risk reduction is 71 percent.
The 12-month support program focuses on healthy eating and physical activity. It meets weekly for 16 weeks, then bi-weekly for two months, then monthly for the last six months. Participants will have a food and activity log, and will take part in food demonstrations, recipe sharing, guest speakers and food tasting.
The Lifestyle Change Program is being offered by Ballad Health at zero cost, a savings of almost $500. The information class is Thursday at 12:30 PM at the Roby Adult Center. Call 952-2187 for more information or to register.
