Greene County USDA Farm Service Agency has several programs available for farmers affected by Hurricane Helene.
The Emergency Conservation Program helps rehabilitate farmland due to the destruction the disaster has caused. Assistance is provided for debris removal from cropland, grading/leveling property, fence restoring or replacement. Appointments for signups will begin Tuesday and continue through June 1, 2025.
The Livestock Indemnity Program covers losses of livestock beyond normal mortality rate due to a natural disaster, while the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm Raised Fish covers losses that are not covered under other disaster programs to help with feed losses.
The FSA is advising producers affected to take pictures of damage prior to clean up. Call 638-4771 for eligibility and assistance.
