The water supply lines in the Greeneville utility district should be fully recharged by Friday morning, with distribution then set to begin to the other utility districts.
Pumps capable of pushing nearly 10 million gallons of water per day have been temporarily installed at the Nolichuckey River and have been moving water since Wednesday. That enabled the system to refill the reservoir and begin treating water. Water has to be brought back slowly in the pipes to avoid too much pressure on lines that have been empty for several days.
Residents are advised to still conserve water, but should also run an outside tap for a few minutes to help stabilize their supply. Water may be muddy looking at first from sediment that may have settled in the lines. For now, the supply is under a Boil Advisory. The water itself is treated and fine, but an empty system could have introduced impurities for water used for consumption.
