Several major regional highways were affected by flooding on Friday, and motorists should expect long-term detours.
Interstate 26 is closed in both directions from Erwin to Sams Gap after both eastbound and westbound bridges washed out near mile marker 43.
Interstate 40 is also closed from Exit 432 in Newport to Exit 20 in North Carolina after part of the eastbound roadway was washed away by flood waters. Parts of I-40 are also closed east of Asheville in the Black Mountain area.
