Greeneville Water Commission Superintendent Laura White spoke during a press conference tonight at the Greeneville Greene County EMA office and said the water intake plant is completely underwater. White said they are working to get pumps. She said the reservoir has a two-day supply for the area for normal water usage.
White asked citizens to conserve as much water as possible. White said they were going to have to institute an emergency plan, which includes cutting off non-essential water such as restaurants and car washes.
The Chuckey Utility District also issued a statement Friday night asking its customers to conserve water. According to Chuckey, all of the utility’s water lines that cross the Nolichucky River have been completely washed out. Repairs will be made as soon as conditions are safe.
