Another flood watch is in effect for Northwest Greene County from this morning at 11 AM until Thursday morning at 11 AM.
Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible in the entire county. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
According to the National Weather Service, an area of showers and thunderstorms will develop and move across the region Wednesday and continue through Thursday morning. Torrential rains with flash flooding may occur.
A brief period of drier conditions is expected Thursday before Tropical Storm Helene moves into the southern Appalachians late Thursday through Friday morning. A return of heavy rainfall is likely.
Stay alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
