The Greeneville Energy Authority was in route to fix a traffic signal at the East Andrew Johnson and Erwin Highway intersection this morning.
Trucks were arriving around 4:45 AM to fix a flashing light. It is unknown how long the traffic light was malfunctioning or what exactly caused it. CEO and President of GEA Dwayne Wells indicated weather may have been a factor as the storms were strong over night and caused outages.
In a case when the traffic signal is flashing or blacked out, it’s important to always treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Come to a complete stop and look in all directions before proceeding.
