GOLF:
Monday, at the Country Club of Morristown, Greeneville added a girl’s district tournament championship to the trophy case.
The Lady Devils scorched the course, finishing with a 156 to claim the District 2-AAA championship by 40 strokes over Seymour. Seymour finished second with a 196 and Sevier County won a playoff and claimed third with a 202. All three teams will advance to play in the region tournament next Monday at the Ridgefields Golf Club in Kingsport.
Kylee Renner earned medalist of the day carding a 76. Her teammates, Brylee Catron and Kamryn Renner finished with a 80 and 82 respectively to all earn spots on the all-tournament team.
The boys’ team hit a couple of strokes of bad luck and ended with a 351, good enough for a 6th place finish behind Morristown West (324), Cherokee (325) and Morristown East (331).
The Greene Devils were paced by Bryce Guinn’s 83 and Bryson Ricker’s 84. TJ Coles shot a 90 and Wolfgang Rabern rounded out the scoring with a 94. Although Guinn did not score well enough to finish within the all-tournament team, he did advance to the region tournament as an individual.
