Warrants were issued for a man who crashed on the 2100 block of Whirlwind Road while reportedly fleeing from deputies after midnight this morning.
A deputy with Greene County Sheriff’s Office was on Blue Springs Parkway when he saw a vehicle on the road with its headlights off. The deputy caught up to the driver as he pulled into a dead end at the Cherokee Boulevard and Britton Avenue intersection.
According to the report, the driver occupying the car was a white male. The deputy got a visual of the man, who started driving forward as the deputy stepped out of his vehicle. The man then took off. Law enforcement was notified the suspect was running. He allegedly fled toward Blue Springs Parkway when the deputy lost sight of him.
Another deputy on patrol alerted he was behind the suspect, as he was driving into the city limits at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued onto the Asheville Highway. The man reportedly was weaving on the wrong side of the road. He eventually fled on foot into the woods after reportedly crashing into a power pole stabilizing cable on Whirlwind Road.
A K-9 was released for a track but lost the scent near Gefellers Drive. During an inventory of the vehicle, the report states a wallet was found with an ID belonging to Jeremy Jenkins. The deputy was able to identify him as the suspect who fled.
A phone was also in the vehicle and rang when deputies were on the scene. The woman who was calling stated she was calling Jeremy. She was advised there were warrants for his arrest for felony evading, reckless driving, and failure to use due care. The woman was asked to alert deputies if she saw Jenkins.
