The Asheville Highway is closed in both directions due to a motor vehicle accident this morning that led to a leak.
The accident was reported at 12330 Asheville Highway around 7 AM. A tractor-trailer that was hauling sand reportedly overturned. Hazmat is en route with booms and pads for a diesel leak.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol, the South Greene Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation are on the scene. The Sheriff’s Department and North Carolina DOT were requested to help direct traffic. The Emergency Management Agency was requested to assist with the leak.
The closure will continue for at least two more hours. Find alternative routes, as there will most likely be delays in that area.
