New council member Matt Hensley, re-elected councilman Tim Teague, and re-elected Greeneville Mayor Cal Doty were sworn in on Tuesday afternoon during the Greeneville City Council meeting.
All three were accompanied by their wives. Mayor Doty was sworn in by Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison, Councilman Tim Teague was sworn in by State Representative David Hawk, and newly elected council member Matt Hensley was sworn in by Greeneville Mayor Cal Doty.
City Manager Todd Smith also gifted Doty his official mayor gavel, which he was stoked about. Mayor Doty asked his father-in-law to lead the invocation, and Hensley led his first Pledge of Allegiance as a councilman.
The Greeneville City Council appointed Dr. Mia Hyde to fill the vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees. Dr. Hyde was selected out of four applications received. The board unanimously voted to recommend her.
The council tabled the discussion to appoint someone to the vacant council member seat on the Greeneville/Greene County Regional Solid Waste Planning Board. City manager Todd Smith said that historically when there’s a new council member, there are also open positions on the boards. Councilman Tim Teague had already expressed interest in joining the Greeneville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The City Council unanimously voted for him to be appointed.
Mayor Cal Doty asked to defer the resolution to fill the vacant council member seat on the Solid Waste Planning Board. He said he wanted more time to review the lists of each board and see which members are on each board in case some positions should be reassigned.
