Since 1985, the McDonald’s on Tusculum Boulevard has been operating, delivering burgers and fries to everyone for a quick meal. However, since then many in the community weren’t necessarily happy with the sign’s height.
Back in those days, according to Town of Greeneville Planning Administrator Randy Davenport, there weren’t any ordinances on signs and how tall they could be. Now that the fast food restaurant has been rebuilt, the topic has been a recent discussion in the community. The building is reportedly about 4-5 feet higher off of the ground now.
Davenport told Radio Greeneville News that concerns regarding the Golden Arches have reached all the way to the corporate level. Members of the community have reportedly expressed that they believe the McDonald’s sign stands taller than the steeple at Trinity United Methodist Church. Some people commented that they see it as a disrespect to God.
The developer has decided he will lower the sign 30 feet from where it currently stands. A brand new sign will be installed with a digital board. Davenport said it would cost the developer several thousands of dollars.
