A man was charged with resisting arrest, domestic assault, public intoxication, and assault on a law enforcement officer Thursday night.
Greeneville Police responded to a gas station on the 800 block of West Andrew Johnson Highway concerning a domestic disturbance. An officer spoke with a woman who was allegedly assaulted by a man who was waiting for her to exit the gas station. According to the report, the man began arguing with the woman, took her backpack, struck her in the face, grabbed her by the head and hit her head against his truck. The woman reportedly fell to the ground as the man walked away. The report indicated the two knew each other.
A witness spoke with the officer and said he saw the woman fall hard on the ground, then the suspect walked away. He was located sitting near the Care Center and reportedly denied the assault. The victim’s backpack was found near the suspect. He also allegedly had slurred speech, trouble keeping his balance and needed assistance to stand. He did admit to police he drank alcohol.
When he was arrested, he reportedly refused to follow commands, became combative, and kicked an officer. The man allegedly continued to be belligerent and kicked the officer’s back window, resulting in the additional assault charge and resisting arrest charge.
