Golf:
Rebels Sink the Competition
The temperatures were high Thursday afternoon, but that did not hinder South Greene’s golf team from taking down West Greene and Johnson County at Twin Creeks. The Rebels shot an impressive 162, while the Buffaloes came in with a 184 and the Longhorns a 190.
Kolben Gregg got back into the “swing” of things picking up medalist honors with a 37 to lead the Rebels. Benji Conner came to the clubhouse with a 40, while Cameron Kinser’s 43 and Colby Brooks rounded out the Rebel leaders. The Buffaloes were paced by Conner Campbell and Aiden Willett who both shot a 43.
Cross Country:
Devils Top the Competition in the Terry Hull Crawford Classic
Greeneville’s Trey Bailey and Grant Tunnell both paced the field and set the tone for field in the Terry Hull Crawford Classic that was held at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center Thursday afternoon. The two Greene Devils crossed the finish line only milliseconds apart at 18 minutes 40.6 seconds. Isaac Tunnell crossed the finish line 2.5 seconds later and finished 6th to help the Greene Devils win the boys’ division with 27 points. The Unicoi Blue Devils finished second, while South Greene and Chuckey Doak rounded out the field.
The Rebels were paced by 12th and 13th place finishes from Noah Case and Andrew Lacy, followed by Jack Laycek in 15th. Freshman, Benjamin Merrill, finished 9th for the Black Knights. Walker Harrison finished 17th and Elijah Waddell 18th for Towering Oakes
Greeneville’s Lady Devils brought home several top finishers to secure the win in the girls’ division, followed by Sullivan East. A trio of seniors, Tristen Douthat (2) Annika Vines (4) and Darla Kemmerdiener (5) paced the Lady Devils with top 5 finishes. Riley Castro was close behind in 6th, while Sydney Doane finished 10th to round out the top Lady Devil finishers.
Ella Harrison finished 9th for Towering Oaks, while Ava Leasure came in 18th for South Greene and Gili Mortalla 22nd for Chuckey Doak.
Volleyball:
Cyclone Swirl Past Lady Devils
Greeneville made the trip to Elizabethton Thursday afternoon and, unfortunately were not able to overcome the Cyclone’s push that sent the Lady Devils down to defeat in three straight sets. The Cyclones took the first set 25-15 and then claimed the second 28-26. Needing to rebound, the Lady Devils could not rebound before falling 25-16, seeing their record fall to 2-1 in the conference.
Girl’s Soccer:
Lady Knights power past Cosby 8-1
Layla Fox scored five goals and the Lady Knights cruise to a victory 8-1.
