Recent heavy rainfall has allowed most of Greene County to be removed from drought status by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
According to Emergency Management Agency Director Heather Sipe, the rainfall was sufficient to take nearly all of Greene County back into no drought status. The only areas of the county still on the monitor for abnormally dry conditions are in the vicinity of Mosheim and Midway, accounting for just over 20 percent of the county’s area.
The drought monitor shows that 42 percent of the state is under conditions ranging from abnormally dry to moderate drought, down from 52 percent the previous week. An estimated 527,000 people live in areas of Tennessee that are experiencing dry or drought conditions.
