An East Allens Bridge Road couple reported a jury duty scam on Thursday.
The victims said they were contacted by someone claiming to be Captain Seth Weese. The caller said the male victim was to report for jury duty and needed to pay $2,000 for a bond. The victim was told if he did not pay the bond, he would be charged with failure to appear, contempt of court, and failure to comply. He was also told Judge Bailey would reimburse his $2,000 bond if he showed up for jury duty.
The man sent the scammer $2,000 at the Ingles on Asheville Highway. After realizing it was a scam, the couple reported the incident to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
