The Newport Highway was closed for a little over an hour Thursday due to a car fire. Volunteers with the Debusk and Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the scene just after 3:15 PM to the 4300 block near the Pates Lane intersection. A car was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
The Rogersville Road/Lonesome Pine Trail remains closed as of 5:00 PM after a tractor trailer overturned near the Vulcan Materials plant. The semi has been removed , but clean up continues on the load of lumber that spilled.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has closed the Lonesome Pine Trail at the intersection of 11-E for outbound traffic. Inbound traffic is being stopped at the Lover’s Lane intersection. Passenger vehicles are being allowed to detour onto Lover’s Lane, while larger vehicles and semi trucks will be held on the highway until the wreckage is cleared.
As a result of that detour, Lover’s Lane will be one-way only until the Rogersville Highway is opened. No thru traffic will be allowed to turn onto Lover’s Lane from the Blue Springs Parkway.
