A structure on the 1100 block of Lauderdale Road was determined a total loss after it caught on fire last week.
The fire occurred sometime overnight on Thursday. It was reported on Saturday after a deputy spoke with a family member of the victims, who stated there was no power in the home for a few years. The residence did contain some personal belongings, however it remained unoccupied.
Investigators returned to the scene during daylight and spoke with the Chief of Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Ryan Holt. Holt stated a resident contacted him about a large fire behind his house. Holt drove down Lauderdale Road and found the structure on fire. He said the center section of the home was more consumed when he arrived.
Investigators believe the fire started at or above floor level. According to the report, because there was no power and there were no other possible ignition sources in the area, this was an incendiary fire that originated in the area of the front den. The home was reportedly a total loss and estimated at $300,000.
