Eight Greeneville/Greene County student-athletes were recognized by the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association as All-State members for their accomplishments and for their success during the TSSAA State meet.
Greeneville’s duo of Zaydyn Anderson and Jacob Moore continued to reap the rewards of their team’s state championship. Both were named to the class 2A team.
Anderson, a sophomore, was listed on the team under four categories. He finished first in the Long Jump, leaping 22-feet 3.5-inches, and completing the 200-meter dash in 21.88 seconds. He also gained two second place finishes covering 43-feet 9.5-inches in the Triple Jump and sprinting the100-meter dash in 11.07 seconds.
Moore finished his junior year finishing second in the Pole Vault clearing 13-feet and joining his teammate on the list.
The 1A squad consisted of West Greene’s Abbey Cox, South Greene’s Heath Norton and Nolan Weems, along with Chuckey Doak’s Niome Merrill, Carmella Smock, and Isaiah Treadway.
Cox, a senior, made the list with strong finishes in two events. She threw the Discus 108-feet to claim second place and then finished third in the Shot Put with a distance of 34-feet 9.5-inches.
Norton, a sophomore, finished second in the Shot Put hurling the shot 44-feet 8.5-inches, while Weems, a junior, cleared the bar at 11-feet to finish third in the Pole Vault.
Merrill, a senior, vaulted a personal best 9-feet 6-inches to come in second in the Pole Vault, while Smock, a senior, completed the 3200-meter run in 12-minutes 16.99-seconds and Treadway finished his high school career with a third-place finish in the Decathlon.
