The Greene County Board of Education met yesterday afternoon and announced that all students in the county school system will be receiving free meals starting at the beginning of the school year. Every single student will now be able to receive free breakfast and lunch in the upcoming school year, according to the Chairman of the board Rick Tipton. This time around no paperwork needs to be filled out.
The board also welcomed new elected board member George Frye. Frye was selected to be on the board by the Greene County Commission and has much experience in the school system. He joined the board members on Thursday for his first meeting after winning the Caucus on June 15th. He has spent more than 40 years teaching in various positions from principal to coach.
Samuel Riddle, a student from Chuckey-Doak High School, also got recognition and a standing ovation during the board meeting for having perfect attendance. Riddle is the only student in the county school system currently, who has had perfect attendance since Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. His family accompanied him along with his sister, who also reportedly had perfect attendance during her school year about a decade ago.
