A body recovered from the Nolichucky River on Sunday, June 16th, 2024 has been identified as a missing man from Greeneville.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was called after 4 PM on Sunday after the body was found off Bright Hope Road. According to a press release from the department, the body has been identified as 36 year-old Brian Key of Greeneville.
On Saturday, Key was reported missing by family members after they were unable to reach him. Volunteers from the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and members from the Sheriff’s Department conducted a search operation on the Nolichucky River, upstream from the Poplar Springs boat ramp. Key’s vehicle was reportedly located near the river off River Bend Road in southern Greene County but the search for Key yielded no results.
After locating the body on Sunday, he was sent to the Forensic Center in Johnson City for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
