On Saturday, June 22nd the Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department will have their Annual BBQ and Ice Cream Supper. Serving hours will be from 3-7 PM at the fire department located at 150 Alexander Street. Radio Greeneville stations will give away tickets for a food plate at the supper, courtesy of the department. The tickets will provide free plates of food, sandwiches, or ice cream!
This supper and fundraiser is the biggest provider for the department throughout the year and continues to grow, according to Assistant Chief Nathan Hensley. The community is invited to join the Tusculum VFD members and junior members. It’s the perfect opportunity for the community to do a walk-through of the station, take a peek at their apparatus, and enjoy some great BBQ and ice cream with family and friends.
This year the menu will include the same great BBQ from Smokin’ Pig as last year, as well as ice cream from Creamy Cup. Each meal will be a choice of either a BBQ Sandwich Plate or 2 Hot Dog plate, these will include: homemade baked beans, homemade slaw, chips, a drink, and one cup of ice cream. The meals will be $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for kids 10 and under.
Moreover, this year the Tusculum VFD has added additional food items for purchase: BBQ sandwich for $6.00, BBQ by the pound for $10.00/pound, and additional ice cream cups for $2.00/cup. Anyone can purchase or pre-order the BBQ by the pound by calling or texting our secretary Kristie Hensley at 423-426-4989 to place an order.
There will be a public education table set up, where visitors can pick up various forms of fire safety information, ask questions about how to become a member, and pick up “activity bags” for the kids. This year the fire department has increased their seating area with additional tables to help with congestion and so all can have a place to sit down. Due to additional community events that are taking place this year in the area, they decided to move the hours of serving so attendees can try to make all their events if they choose to.
All proceeds will be going to the day-to-day operation of the fire department. This includes maintaining apparatus, providing training, and further developing members’ skills, as well as any other needs that may arise in the future, as the Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department is 100% volunteer and relies on fundraising events for a majority of funding.
According to Assistant Chief Nathan Hensley, they are in the beginning stages of replacing one of their apparatus, which could cost as much as $300,000- $400,000 (depending on the availability of trucks and available funding). This will allow the station to update it so members can provide even better service to the community. The department looks forward to seeing members from the surrounding areas for some great food and great fellowship.
