Two medical helicopters and at least five ambulances were called to the scene of a wreck Sunday on Interstate 81 when a wrong-way driver caused a head-on accident.
Witnesses said that a vehicle was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the 23 mile marker. It appeared that the vehicle entered the interstate by travelling up the off-ramp in Mosheim. The accident happened just a few hundred yards south of the exit when the wrong-way vehicle struck another car head-on.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating.
