The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a body in the Nolichucky River near Bright Hope Road. The Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad assisted in the recovery.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the GCSD was called to the scene around 4PM Sunday. The body has been transported to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center at ETSU for identification and to determine the cause of death.
On Saturday, volunteers from the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad, along with members of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a search operation on the Nolichucky River upstream from the Poplar Springs boat ramp.
A vehicle had reportedly been found off near that area close to the edge of a cliff. No driver was located in the vicinity at that time. Squad volunteers conducted an extensive search at that time failed to locate anyone in the area.
