The Greeneville City Council will meet this afternoon and continue their discussion on how many licensed retailers of alcoholic beverages are allowed in Greeneville with a Public Hearing.
The council approved an ordinance in their last meeting to amend the Town of Greeneville Municipal Code Section 2-105 of Title 2, limiting the number of licensed retailers allowed to sell alcoholic beverages in town.
If the ordinance is approved after the Public Hearing then only one liquor store/one permit will be allowed per 5,000 residents. City Administrator Todd Smith said another liquor store would be considered when Greeneville reaches the 30,000 population. This will be the second and final reading.
Also during the meeting the council will get Miss Tennessee presentations from Titleholders, there will be an update on the Depot Street Construction Project, street closure requests for a Recovery Awareness Event and for the Sundown on Depot II Car Show.
Additionally, there will be a bid consideration for the traffic signal at the intersection of East Andrew Highway and Serral Drive in the amount of $383,944.40. With the approval crews would receive authorization to get started on the project.
Furthermore, an agenda item has been rescheduled to today and the council will consider entering into an agreement with the Jessee Law Office to join a lawsuit against parties responsible for the wrongful distribution of prescription insulin or the generics.
The Greeneville City Council will meet at 4 PM this afternoon at the Greeneville Energy Authority Building on 110 North College Street in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom.
