A Greeneville man was charged with DUI Tuesday night after he allegedly hit a vehicle in a parking lot.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of a hit-and-run at Wendy’s on the West Andrew Johnson Highway in Bulls Gap around 8:45 PM. The victim said a Toyota Tacoma backed out of a parking spot next to her and hit her car. She said the truck did not stop and headed eastbound toward Greeneville. The victim attempted to keep up with the truck, but stopped in the 9000 block of West Andrew Johnson Highway.
While a deputy was en route to meet the victim for a report, a truck matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle was spotted across from Mt. Pleasant Industrial Park. A man was outside looking around the truck. He then got back in and continued toward Greeneville. The deputy caught up to the vehicle around the intersection of Pruitt Road South and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as Nathan Nelson of 107 Cutoff, said he did not hit anyone’s vehicle. An odor of alcohol was detected on Nelson and he was asked to step out of the truck. During the instruction of field sobriety tests, Nelson said he did not want to waste the deputies’ time and admitted to drinking in Knoxville about 45 minutes prior.
Nelson was taken into custody for DUI first offense. Both his truck and the victim’s car sustained minor damage in the incident.
