A Greeneville man was arrested early Thursday morning after he was found by Greene County Sheriff’s due to fleeing officers a day earlier. Three separate spike strips were set up to help stop the man who reportedly drove reckless on the roads. A K-9 was requested before the man could be captured.
According to the report, Greeneville Police were conducting a warrant check on the 800 block of Briarwood Drive Wednesday night for suspect Dakota Key for Violation of Probation. He was reported to be sleeping in the woods across from a residence. Key arrived to the scene in a vehicle but once he saw officers he got back in the car and locked it. Attempts were made to get Key to come out or open the door but he took off through the backyard of the home toward Hope Road. Warrants were taken out for Key Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning after 1 AM Key was spotted in the vehicle by a deputy and located on Campbell Circle. Attempts were made to pull Key over but he fled again, sped off onto the Andrew Johnson Highway into Washington County, and then turned around to drive back to Greene County. A spike strip was set up on Afton Road but was unsuccessful. A second spike strip was a successful hit on at least two tires. Key continued fleeing into town where there was a third spike strip set up by an officer, by that time he lost three out of his four tires.
Key did not stop at that point, he continued driving erratically between lanes. Due to the safety of the public and Key driving at around 15 mph, a deputy utilized his front bumper to end the pursuit. Key was directed to exit the vehicle but did not comply so he was taken to the ground. He was still not following commands so a K-9 was requested. Once Key heard the K-9 warnings he complied and was handcuffed.
He was checked by EMS and cleared. He was charged with felony evading, resisting arrest, and driving on revoked 1st.
