A man from Newport called the Greeneville Police Department on Sunday to report he was drunk in public.
The man identified as Jack Peterson was found on Sunday evening around 7 PM on the 200 block of East Andrew Johnson Highway near a concrete barrier with his hands up in the air. Peterson told officers he was too drunk to walk down the road and said he would get run over. He reportedly had a Gatorade bottle with beer inside of it.
According to the report, you could smell an odor of alcohol on his person and when he stood up he was unsteady on his feet. Peterson reportedly joked with the officers and told them “Well, let’s go to jail.”
Due to his level of intoxication he was believed to be a threat to himself and others. He was arrested with Public Intoxication and transported to the Greene County Jail without incident.
