According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, morning flooding should gradually diminish through mid-day in Greene County. A few of our area rivers have yet to crest and will do so later this afternoon and into the overnight hours with minor flood stage forecast.
FLOOD ADVISORY CANCELLED
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected in Greene County. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Some locations that may experience flooding include Knoxville, Morristown, Greeneville, Newport, Erwin, and Tusculum. Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicle
Additional storms are expected early this morning with some strong to severe storms possible, especially along the Cumberland Plateau to southeast Tennessee. The main threat will be damaging winds, but a brief spin-up tornado can`t be ruled out.
Also, flash flooding continues to be the greatest concern as an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected on top of what has already fallen. According to the National Weather Service, the storms will clear out of the area by mid-morning.
