A Mosheim woman was arrested with charges including driving under the influence at Walgreens Tuesday after she was allegedly found asleep in a vehicle parked behind the business.
The Greeneville Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Andrew Johnson Highway at around 8:30 PM and found the woman, later identified as Sonya M. Mathes. Mathes was reportedly found slumped over with the engine running and was woken up by the officer. She stated she was waiting for her prescription to be filled and fell asleep.
According to the officer, Mathes seemed to be in a depressed state and had a sluggish lethargic demeanor. She admitted to taking suboxone, a prescription used to treat Opioid dependence, a couple hours prior to falling asleep. She also reportedly did poorly on sobriety tests.
During a search, six Xanax pills, five Gabapentin capsules (used to treat seizures and pain), and a bottle of synthetic urine were allegedly found. Mathes was arrested and charged with DUI, financial responsibility law, simple possession of schedule IV drugs, simple possession of schedule V drugs, and falsifying drug tests (synthetic urine prohibited).
