An Afton man was arrested for public intoxication Wednesday evening after he told police he walked to a store to buy detergent.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 6:00 PM to Dollar General near the Farmer’s Daughter on Erwin Highway on the report of a man who appeared intoxicated. The man, identified as Robert Webster of Quillen Shell Road, was reportedly swaying, sweating profusely, and had trouble keeping his balance. Webster reportedly told deputies he had seven drinks of vodka and had walked to the store for detergent.
Webster was asked to step outside for field sobriety tests, but they were stopped due to safety concerns. He was then transported to the Greene County Detention Center for public intoxication.
