A driver backed over her neighbor’s mailbox, and the impact broke her fuel line, leading to a gasoline spill Tuesday morning.
The incident began on Meadow Lane off Fairfield Drive when the driver backed over her neighbor’s mailbox. The mailbox was flattened, and while underneath the car apparently damaged the fuel line for the car. The driver went on to her destination, one street over, onto Mill Drive when she discovered the leak.
EMA Director Heather Sipe said that about 15 gallons of fuel leaked from the vehilce. Some of that was on the roadway and some had started to pool in a drainage area. The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to begin initial containment, and was aided by EMA and Malone’s Wrecker Service.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
