A barn fire was reported at 390 Hillcut Road early Saturday morning.
The victim said he put chickens in the barn Friday evening with a heat lamp and wood chips underneath. Emergency personnel responded around 1:45 AM Saturday to the report of a fire.
The barn, which had numerous bales of hay, a four wheeler, a horse buggy and a tractor inside, was heavily damaged by the fire. The victim said the barn did have power running to it from his home.
While fire investigators were on the scene, a stack of hay approximately 5 to 6 feet tall was found still smoldering. Investigators were unable to find any remnants of the lamp or chicken tote due to the large amount of smoldering hay.
The fire is believed to have started around the heat lamp, but investigators could not determine a definite cause due to the unsafe conditions in the damaged barn.
