Greene County qualifies for a $5M grant that will help replace and relocate the current Public Health Department Center into a facility at the Greene Valley site.
Mayor Kevin Morrison told the Budget and Finance Committee during their meeting this morning that there have been discussions with the Tennessee Department of Health, Northeast Tennessee Department of Health, as well as conversations with Governor Bill Lee and the Health Commissioner. He said the state will provide $5M with a $1M local match from Greene County, totaling $6M for the replacement project.
Mayor Morrison said the funding is available to counties with a master plan created to replace all health facilities across the state. The new facility would be 10,000 to 12,000 square feet and would reportedly meet the publics needs for the next 50 years. If the county is awarded with the funds the construction would include an entrance adjacent to Edens Road with direct access. A resolution will be presented to county commissioners in an upcoming meeting soon, according to Morrison.
