The wildfire that started yesterday on Greene Mountain burned throughout the night.
Firefighters were called to Greene Mountain Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM. Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department made the initial response, as well as firefighters from the Cherokee National Forest.
High winds complicated firefighting efforts, but a helicopter was able to make water drops throughout the afternoon.
According to sources, the fire is about 50% contained and is roughly estimated to be between 40 to 50 acres. Securing lines around the fire and increasing containment is expected today.

Low afternoon humidity and gusty winds will produce increased fire danger levels across our area again this afternoon.

Please avoid the area. Firefighters will be approaching the fire from both ends of Greene Mountain Road. There are limited places for traffic and turnarounds and any vehicles other than emergency responders could cause problems.
