Walters State Community College will be the first community college in Tennessee to offer the Medication Aide Certified (MA-C) Program through its division of workforce training. The first class begins June 4.
The MA-C course trains certified nursing assistants in the safe administration of medications to clients healthcare settings.
“This class provides a career advancement opportunity for current certified nursing assistants,” said Dr. Linda Nelms, director of workforce training health programs. “Those holding this certificate will work under the supervision of registered nurse.”
This class is comprised of 60 hours of training, 40 in the classroom and 20 clinical hours in a long-term care facility. Upon successful completion of the course, students may take the medication aide certified exam and then be eligible to apply for certification with the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
The class will be held June 4 through July 10, meeting from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on the Morristown campus. The cost is $899.
