Greeneville’s softball team used two explosive innings, some dominant pitching, and a solo blast to shut out Claiborne and claim their second conference win this week and improve to 3-4 on the season. The Lady Devils scattered 11 hits on the day, 9 singles followed by 2 extra-base hits.
Kyla Jobe led the offensive attack with a double, homerun, walk, stolen base, and scoring three times. Madison Carpenter had 3 runs batted in on the day, while she, Kayle Garland, and Addie Lamons each collected 2 singles.
Leah Phillips and the Devil defense kept the Bulldog hitters in check. She needed only 34 pitches (30 strikes) to hurl the complete game shutout, facing 1 batter above the minimum (allowing a 4th inning single) while striking out 3 and walking none.
Greeneville will compete in the East Tennessee Classic at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City this weekend. They will take on Elizabethton and David Crockett on Friday and Dobyns Bennett on Saturday before beginning bracket play later Saturday afternoon.
