ROCK HILL, S.C. — Tusculum University freshman Tijn van Gorkom has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending March 17, the SAC announced Monday.
Van Gorkom went 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles to help the Pioneers extend their winning streak to seven matches with four victories last week, including SAC wins over Coker and Anderson.
The Heemstede, Netherlands native won all four of his singles matches in straight sets, and teamed with fellow freshman and countryman Rens Verhaar for four victories in doubles, all at flight three.
For the season, van Gorkom has a 5-0 record in singles and an 8-3 mark in doubles, all with Verhaar as his partner.
Tusculum is 10-3 overall and entered the week ranked 50th in Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Pioneers are tied for first place in the SAC with Wingate and Catawba with a 3-0 record in league play.
The Pioneers will visit Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, March 20 to take on the Railsplitters beginning at 3 p.m.
