Assistant Chief of the Greeneville Police Department Stephen C. Hixson was found not guilty for his domestic assault charge during his Jury Trial on Wednesday versus the State of Tennessee.
Hixson was originally charged after the report of an argument where he allegedly assaulted a family member on December 10th, 2022. Radio Greeneville spoke with his Defense Attorney Gene Scott Jr. who confirmed the alleged assault was toward his stepdaughter, who claimed Hixson head butted her, causing bodily injury.
Ultimately there was not enough evidence against Hixson during the trial and the state was not able to prove the allegations, according to Scott. Scott has represented Hixson since August of last year. He added he appreciated the jury and how they handled the case and feels they made the right decision.
Hixson has been placed back on full duty status as an officer at the department by City Manager Todd Smith, according to Police Chief Steve Spano.
In a press release, Spano stated he, Hixson, and the Police Department are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the department. He added the outcome reaffirms Hixson’s innocence throughout the process and continues to show the importance of a fair and impartial judicial system in addressing allegations of misconduct.
