BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee third baseman Billy Amick was tabbed the SEC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after an impressive string of performances in the Vols’ four victories last week.
Amick continued his torrid start to the year by leading the Big Orange to another undefeated week that extended their win streak to 10 games. The junior slugger had a hit in all four games, including homers in each of UT’s first three contests of the week. Amick’s four homers ranked second among all SEC players in week three and he also finished tied for the conference lead with eight runs scored for the week while his 21 total bases were the third most in the league.
The Batesburg, South Carolina, native, went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs scored, three homers and five RBIs in the first two games of Tennessee’s series sweep of Bowling Green over the weekend, including a two-homer outing in Friday’s 11-1 victory. The first-year Vol also showcased his defensive prowess with multiple impressive plays at the hot corner, helping turn a pair of double plays while posting a team-leading nine assists and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the week.
For the year, Amick ranks first on the team and is among the SEC leaders in numerous offensive categories, including hits (17), home runs (seven), RBIs (18), total bases (42) and slugging percentage (.933).
Amick is the first Tennessee player to be named the SEC Player of the Week since Jorel Ortega on April 18, 2022, and the second Vol to garner SEC weekly honors this season, joining AJ Causey who was tabbed the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 19.
