Two people left the scene of an accident Sunday with assistance from another person but the driver later admitted to Greeneville Police they were driving the vehicle.
Officers responded to a crash near Hillcrest Drive after 1 AM and spotted a Chevy leaving the scene that drove to a Morningside Drive residence. Officers saw the vehicle that crashed was unoccupied and went to the Morningside Drive residence to speak with the driver of the Chevy, Corey Greenway.
Greenway was reportedly uncooperative when questioned about the crash and went inside the residence, closing the door on the officer. Video footage of the crash was received and showed two women in the car that crashed, Shereka Merriweather and Keyonna Hamilton. Hamilton, the passenger, reportedly left the scene and walked toward Morningside Drive. Sometime later Greenway allegedly pulls up to the crash and assists Merriweather in pushing the car off a pole, in attempt to leave with the car. They were unsuccessful according to the report and both left in the Chevy.
On Monday, Merriweather called police admitting she was the one driving and left the scene. A Criminal Summons was taken out for her and Hamilton for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Greenway was charged for driving on a revoked license and assisting the suspect in leaving the scene of an accident. No injuries were reported.
