A diesel leak occurred on the bypass Thursday afternoon around 1:45 PM. A semi-truck was travelling northbound on the West AJ Highway when the tank was punctured by a metal rod. The rod was laying in the roadway and was flung into the tank as the cab ran over it.
EMA Director Heather Sipe said that around 20 gallons of diesel leaked from the semi’s tank. Sipe said that the DS Smith trucking off-loaded around 80 gallons of fuel.
EMS, Greeneville Police and the Greeneville Fire Department were on the scene. Traffic was reduced to one lane while Malone’s Wrecker Service responded to clean up the spilled fuel.
