The City Council approved a plan to include railings along areas on Depot Street to address and improve the sloped sidewalk issue.
Due to safety and liability concerns for the sidewalk and potential hazard for pedestrians, a new design was requested. Architect Cliff Brooks, who has been involved in the Depot Street Project, has been working on design modifications since the issue was brought up in September of 2023.
The City Council’s approval is just for the concept of leaning railings, which would first be added in the main areas of concern. JMT said leaning railings with 12-inch bar tops would be installed on West Depot Street, adjacent to Milligan & Coleman Law Office. Another set would be placed in front of Tipton’s and another would be placed near the intersection of Depot and Irish Street, near the Nickle Ridge Winery.
Pricing for the leaning railings will be confirmed and discussed in an upcoming City Council meeting.
