A Mt. Hope Road man was charged for allegedly giving false information after wrecking his vehicle early this morning.
Deputies received a report shortly before 3 AM from an On-Star system of a wreck with airbags deployed at Mountain Valley Road and Jenkins Lane. Another call was received about 10 minutes later from Charles Voiles stating someone had stolen his car from his house on Mt. Hope Road. Voiles said he chased it, but lost sight of it on Mountain Valley Road.
When deputies arrived at the scene of the wreck, the vehicle was facing the opposite way if it had been stolen. The Chevrolet Cruze was facing back toward the Mt. Hope Road intersection and was impaled into a guardrail.
Voiles told deputies he had the car running while putting air into a tire, went back inside the home, and someone drove off with his vehicle. He then claimed to have been home all night. However, witnesses inside the house said Voiles had arrived shortly before police. They said he had been at work since 6:00 PM and was not expected home until 6:00 AM.
According to the report, Voiles had a bloody nose and a cut covered by a band-aid on his forehead. He also had residue consistent with airbag deployment on his shirt and pants.
He was taken into custody for filing a false report, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving on a suspended license. While being transported to the Greene County Detention Center, he confessed to driving the vehicle and having the crash.
