Working smoke detectors and a quick response by the United Volunteer Fire Department likely prevented major fire damage to a Baileyton home Monday.
The homeowner at 250 Pine Loop in Baileyton came home shorty after 5 PM to the smell of smoke in the house and smoke alarms activating. The homeowner found the breaker box fully engulfed at that time.
United Volunteer Fire Department responded first to the scene and was able to confine the damage just to the breaker box and wall, with some damage to the ceiling, preventing it from spreading to the entire house. They were assisted by three members from the Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department and two members from the Goshen Valley VFD.
Fire fighters remained on the scene until around 7 PM. EMS and the Greeneville Energy Authority also responded.
