TVA hit an all-time demand, but no significant outages were reported across the seven state region for which TVA supplies power, and no rolling blackouts were ordered.
Locally, Greeneville Energy Authority thanked their customers for their contribution in minimizing energy usage during peak demands. There were a couple of instances of brief outages in Greene County, but those were no due to any cutback ordered by TVA.
The forecast, however, calls for even colder temperatures this weekend, which is likely to cause TVA to issue another plea for energy conservation. Temperatures Saturday night are expected to be below zero. Last night’s low was 5.
This chart shows power demand for TVA over the last few days. Each day has two higher demand times, and two lower demand times. Power demand peaks usually around 8 AM and again around 8 PM, with the demand dipping each day around 3 PM and again around 3 AM. The colder temperatures have caused the daily highs and lows to continue to creep up. Other data is available at eia.gov.
Below is the message from the Greeneville Energy Authority:
Dear Customers,
We want to express our gratitude to each and every one of you for your invaluable contribution to minimizing energy usage during peak demand.
Your cooperation has been instrumental.
Despite a couple of local outages overnight and into this morning, it’s important to clarify that these were unrelated to rolling blackouts.
We are pleased to inform you that we successfully weathered the peak demand, thanks to your efforts. We appreciate your cooperation.
TVA will provide us with an update on their system this afternoon, and we will release a more detailed update accordingly.
Thank you for your understanding and collaboration.
Sincerely,
Greeneville Energy Authority
