UPDATE: A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Greene County from 7 PM Thursday until 7 PM Friday and for the mountains from 7 PM Thursday until 7 AM Saturday.
Another round of snow and wintry mix is expected for East Tennessee Thursday night and into Friday morning, but shouldn’t bring as much snow as we had earlier this week.
The National Weather Service says that rain will begin on Thursday which could change over to snow flurries that persist through Friday morning. The best chance of snow over 1″ is for the mountains and far northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia.
In Greene County and around the rest of the valley area, less than an inch is expected, although it could be enough to cause hazardous driving conditions Friday morning. The exact timing of the rain-to-snow transition isn’t certain, which could also affect snow totals.
As of now, the National Weather Service says there is about a 30-40% chance of Greene County seeing 1″ of snow, while the chance of snow in southwest Virginia is closer to 90%.
This system will be followed by even colder temperatures, with lows Saturday night expected to be -1.
