A Manager from a business in Mosheim believes he was scammed after reportedly getting a call from the “IRS” regarding an audit.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office spoke with the business located on the 14000 block of West Andrew Johnson Highway. The manager said he got a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS. They stated the business was going to be audited because of the discovery of counterfeit money.
The victim was allegedly instructed to get money from the register and drive to Walgreens to deposit it. Although the victim thought it was suspicious he continued to follow directions. According to the report, the suspect said to purchase two “PayOne” cards for $500 each and was told to deposit the remaining funds, over $700, through a barcode that was scanned via phone.
The company is reportedly out of almost $1,700.
